Personal Style

I primarily have found myself shooting static subjects, often macro.  It seems to be what I am comfortable with.  I appreciate the almost meditative effort in really looking at and attempting to capture those types of subjects.  The following are a couple examples.

However, I would like to get more proficient at shooting more fluid scenes, particularly people, which I am not at all comfortable shooting.  The following photo is from this year's Procession of the Species where I went to practice.  I was drawn to this triad of women, their body movement and colors.  Unfortunately, two of the women are not in focus, and the other is too dominant and close.  I would have liked to have found a different framing that balanced the figures better and shutter speed that enabled me to get a crisper shot.

  1. ACTUALLY I think, the framing works great. There is A LOT of composition conventions that make this image successful. You have enough negative space surrounding the three bodies that it creates a sense of space. Since I SEE lines, shapes, patterns, colors, textures, etc. FIRST, rather than the actual subjects, I see the leading lines that bring my attention into the image and keep it there. The soft focus on the mid ground shapes supports the illusion of depth and the color contrast makes the shapes visible. In my humble opinion I think its a strong image.

  2. Yep! Ditto. I was popping in to say how much I actually like the composition and was glad the back two dancers were softer focus, but Barb already said it all and better :)
