I personally really like this one. I realized from this picture 

that I really need to work on getting over my shyness 

and asking people if its ok to photograph them. I think without 

them in the photo it wouldn't be as affective.

Well maybe not quit a close up, but I think it sort of counts 

with the wing and type on there. I mostly just liked the

 image and how the wing shows some depth of field 

and sort of frames the planes in the back.

I chose this one cause I like how both men repeat the shape 

of the airplanes wings with their arms. I also think the negative shapes 

between his arm and the wings add some interest.

Obviously, this one is impossible, but I just found the background too distracting so I decided to photoshop it out and see what it looks like. I like it better without hopefully its not too noticeable.

I would have liked to do some refrigerator shots but not enough time for this week.

THE AIR SHOW

The blades on this helicopter turn a lot slower than the airplanes & helicopters.   I had to drop to 1/80 shutter speed to obtain this shot.  All three shots were hand held 400 mm lens

My pictures seems to fall into the colors, textures and lines the most
The pictures that fall into the least are repetition
Which pictures would I like to further develop ---  would be repetition & patterns
The images that I have overlooked in the past, but have potential to be great shots involve patterns & repetition
Nature seems to be the similar theme in most of my pictures.   In the past year, I have expanded my photography to portraits, weddings, & sports, which I am enjoying very much.

And just for fun, something from the air show - and no I didn't rotate it. The Lieutenant did this all by himself!  I did, however, crop it and enlarge it for effect. Metadata: 300mm; ISO 250; 1/320s; f/16

I took this a couple years ago at a lavender farm near Sequim. In reviewing - and I'm not done yet - my pattern seems to be catching something that catches my eye, like this bicycle leaning against the fence with the flowers behind and trees beyond. This was taken with a much different camera than I have now, and with no understanding of what I was doing. If I were taking it again I wouldn't center the bicycle, would want to try for an angle where the white grips of the handlebars aren't lost in the white blooms, and if I moved to get the sign on the left I might be able to angle it so the quaint little shop comes into view on the right - and still not lose the bicycle.

Personal Style

I took this photo back in Oct 2008 so just a few months after I had bought the camera and began taking photos.    In reviewing my photos I seem to like close-up and macro work - I take more photos of landscapes and try to find contrast with the images - light and dark being a central theme.  
I did notice that I had a few photos with repitioon as a theme and I think that might be an avenue to explore further.

This photo was taken on scene mode because at the time I had no clue as to what the setting in the A, S and M mode could do - so now in thinking about reshooting my images I would always try to use those modes first and then revert back to scene mode for those "can't miss it and do not have time to figure it out" moments.

Melanie - Personal Style

ISO 100, f4.5, 1/80 sec.  I'm not sure if anyone would find this interesting or not, but I was looking for a different angle.  I took a photo of this columbine flower yesterday from the front and from the side and I liked those too, but the back is also unusual and I think it is pretty.  In looking at old photos, I find that I am drawn to closeups, especially if they have vivid colors, interesting shapes, textures, and lines.  The really close macro photography really excites me.  I like seeing what we miss.  The closer up the better.  In high school I took photos through a microscope for a science project and I think that might have been the start of a love affair.  Ha!   (I hope this doesn't sound too sappy, but I have really loved looking at everyone's amazing photos for this class and find that I am so inspired by everyone and I am learning so much.  What a wonderful class we have!  And a great teacher who loves to share her knowledge!  Thanks!)

All three photos reflect the categories I found I gravitate to the most: color, line, shape, values of light/dark, texture and emphasis (often not giving the viewer much choice in where to look).  They also reflect my interest in close-ups.  All three were taken in the past few months with my iphone .

My husband captured this at theAir Show with the 'best camera in his hand' - an iphone 3Gs/3.1mp. and named it "Waiting for the Shot"! I taught him everything he knows - look for the light first, place the subject in the background, then wait for the POSE, SEE angles, negative space, and seize the moment. mix in a little mood/emotion/atmosphere, tell the story, AND make the model look good, (especially from behind), etc, etc, etc.... not bad for an amateur.... with a 'mere' cell phone camera! LOVE this shot!  THANKS Dave M! hehe

This was taken with a Canon 7d, 300mm lens, 1.4 teleconverter, F7.1 @ 1/1250. One of my goals was to get a shot with full afterburners and vapor trails.

Melanie - Refrigerator items

This was taken on manual mode, ISO 100, f5, 1.3sec, 18mm, wb fluorescent, & zoomed out I think.  I had a flashlight positioned on the front right side and the fluorescent lights in the kitchen were on as an added light source.  I like how the words come out at you.  I also like the rainbow of color.

I may have misunderstood what Barbra wanted for this - I took a series of images from my fridge a total of 5 different things and then settled on this on as being the best to stump you - well, I  really  just liked all the colors ;~)

Personal Visual Biases

ISO 640,  135 mm. f/13, 1/250.  After reviewing previous pics especially animals and birds, I think my similar theme seems to be texture and color.  I noticed I tend to try to capture the detail and texture of the animal's hair, a bird's feather, the texture of a flower petal,  I want to be able to look at my pictures and imagine what the surface or texture would feel like if I were to touch it.   I also enjoy the blending of colors and shapes especially in flower along with the detail of each individual flower petal or leaf.

Everyday environment

Flower outside of front door.  ISO  100,  60mm, f/5, 1/500.  I liked the colors and the shape/form of the flower petals and stems. Thought it was interesting. Don't have a macro lens (yet) but wonder what it would look like taken with a dedicated macro.

Air show field trip

For most people, this would be considered yet another jet picture, but I liked the cloud background and the hills at the bottom.  ISO 100, 140mm, f/5.6, 1/800. Taken w/70-200mm lens w/2x teleconverter.  I brought a "don't forget to try this" list to the air show and one of the things was to try bracketing, which unfortunately I didn't do or remember about until I was leaving to go home.

ISO 1250, 44mm,  f/11, 1/60   Got a little creative.  painted the OJ label with a tiny bit of cooking oil , then sprayed w/water from spray bottle. Wanted to see if the water would bead up on the label.  I turned off kitchen light, black paper as background and placed a square flashlight to the side to see what it looked like with part of the label a little more illuminated.  I thought it made the OJ  look very thirst quenching with the water beads

Calla Lilly at ISO 200, f6.3, 1/160sec.  I'm still bad about looking for background distractions.  I hadn't noticed the blue orb when I took it.  I was looking at the rain drops.  I should have moved the pot or moved the orb and then taken the shot.
