The closeups are interesting. The light adds dimension and visual interest to the three that are 'lit" . LOVE the human interest shot. I like how you included just a little of the overcast sky to help define the depth of the picture. Does the very red shape in the lower left hand corner continually draw your eye away from the subjects? Do you think including more of the plane or environment would have helped tell the a better story for those viewers who had not been at the event? What do you think about the shoes touching the frame of the photo? Would including a little more negative space around the shoes help to increase a sense of space?
Never even noticed where the shoes were before. Now that you point it out I can't NOT notice them :). I appreciate your comment about thinking about viewers that didn't know the setting. With that in mind I think that if I had moved more to the right of where I shot, I could have shown more of the plane and the men sitting on the wing - that would have improved the "story telling" of the photo! Don't know what I think about the red shape. I included it intentionally, but maybe it is not helpful. Many years ago I was encouraged to "use my space" and include details to draw my viewer in so their eye wanders around the shot, but I think I need to be more critical about what details are helpful and what details are distracting.
