THE AIR SHOW

The blades on this helicopter turn a lot slower than the airplanes & helicopters.   I had to drop to 1/80 shutter speed to obtain this shot.  All three shots were hand held 400 mm lens

  1. Difficult to get the SS dialed in for the various velocities of objects we encountered. Blurred prop spin MAKES the shot of an otherwise static image -implied motion.

It pays to go to the air show several days in a row. The first day there are A LOT of deleted images, in exchange for A LOT of learning - The 2nd/3rd days we KNOW exactly what to expect, what the aircraft will do and where it will be, what settings are needed, what location to be standing in, etc etc etc. Then comes the challenge of making the shot and making it unique from the other 500 photogs with pro gear!!!!

Not bad on sharpness of the FA/18 shot.... for handholding! What was your SS?
